Circling the Mt. Kailash

Circling (it takes three days): Tourists should bring their own food, such as instant noodles, sausages and chocolate for the journey. It is not convenient to buy food for the journey in Dajin Township, so tourists are suggested to buy some in Shiquanhe Town or before they reach Lhaze. Water purifiers are good to purify the drinking water on the way of the Circling. The temples on the mountain offer accommodation for the tourists. Hot water and quilts are available there. Tourists should deposit their heavy baggage at the hotel before the Circling. Otherwise, they will be overloaded on the way, which is dangerous because the altitude is high there. There are many porters waiting outside Gangdise Hotel and Dajin Hotel every morning. They usually charge RMB 60 yuan per day. If you want to hire one, you’d better talk with them clearly about the price.

The journey:

Day 1 (26 km, about 10 hours): Circling westward from Dajin Township→5 km →the Entrance (there is a piece of 20-meter high sutra standing at the entrance) → 6 km→the riverside (the temple on the hillside along the opposite bank of the river offers accommodation for tourists) →15km→temple (accommodation).

Day 2 (22 km, about 8 hours): the temple→4 km→the burial site→4 km →Mani Pile in the lap (at an altitude of 5,700 meters) →4 km→riverside→10 km→the temple (accommodation).

Day 3 (9 km, about 5 hours): The temple→6 km→the tollgate of the exit→3 km→ Dajin Township
